Motivating Adoption of KBSA: Issues, Arguments, and Strategies
Abstract
Roger's model of the diffusion of innovation, when applied to the current state of KBSA technology, suggests that KBSA is not likely to receive widespread adoption today, even in the limited context of trial use. While the high-level development support it provides motivates its adoption, much of this support is only partially available today. Other factors tend to discourage its adoption at this time. These include its low degree of trialability, lack of documentation and support, and incompatibility with the technical environments and social values of potential adopters. In order to promote the trial adoption of KBSA technology, this paper sketches strategies which KBSA developers can apply in the short term to mitigate or overcome these factors. These strategies involve leveraging existing CASE tool capabilities, conceptualizing different categories of KBSA research projects, and adopter education and empowerment.
