Abstract

Having been out of academia for a number of years, I jumped at the chance to review these volumes, seeing this as an opportunity to get back up to speed with what was happening with the functional programming community.To give you some background, the point where I left to join industry was just after the world started using monads to structure their functional creations and I wondered what had come along since then.The two volumes actually draw together papers from the first two Scottish Functional Programming workshops.As such, the collected works read far more like conference proceedings, with each paper standing alone, than textbooks.However, the two volumes do succeed in bringing together papers under various headings:
