Deleting Irrelevant Tasks in an Expression-Oriented Multiprocessor System

Abstract

Parallelism gleaned from concurrent evaluation of subexpressions in a multiprocessor designed for parallel evaluation of recursive programs can lead to the generation of unnecessary computations.Even when these unnecessary computations do not threaten to overwhelm the system, it may be worth devoting some resources to terminating them.A method for deleting irrelevant processes without temporarily suspending the overall computation is described, especially as it relates to a particular model for a multiprocessor system designed to evaluate expressions by a computation rule related to "full substitution."
